Dental Bonding

What is Dental Bonding?

Composite resin bonding, or simply Dental Bonding, is a method used to repair minutely chipped, discolored, or cracked teeth. Dental bonding utilizes an etching technique to prepare the surface area of a tooth allowing composite materials, also called resin or white filling, to bond to the structure of the tooth that is being restored.

How does Dental Bonding work?

The tooth colored composite material is placed onto the tooth to improve its appearance. When applied it can be literally sculpted into natural, beautiful modification for the cracks and chips in the teeth, filling gaps, recoloring or reshaping teeth. During this process we are able to precisely Match the shade of the resin material to the natural tooth color to produce a seamless end result.

Tooth bonding can also be used for tooth fillings instead of silver amalgam. Many patients prefer bonded fillings because the white color is much less noticeable than silver. Bonding fillings can be used on front or back teeth, depending on the location and extent of tooth decay.

Bonding is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments and can usually be completed in one visit to our office. We recommend having our professional whitening procedure done prior in order to enhance the finish product of your new beautiful smile makeover.
